Farewell and Syabas!

After a long 3 and half years of struggle and hardship in their studies, both families, Bro Farhan and Kak Mimi are finally leaving Geelong for good. Weeks before their departure, GMC members have hand-in-hand, day-and-night assisted them in packing, cleaning and clearing up goods.

Before their departure, a doa’ reciting ceremony was held to pray for Both families safe journey returning to Malaysia as well as for Sister Khalida’s stepmother whom just passed away on the same day.
Coincide with this event, a small token of donation from all GMC members were handed out to Khalida to ease her burden.
GMC members would like to relay our deepest condolences to Khalida and family and at the same time congratulate both, Farhan and Kak Mimi, for their success in study. Thank you bro Aza and Kak Yah for lending your residence for this memorable event.
Informal Meeting with Director of Education Malaysia Australia

GMC members welcomed The Director of Education Malaysia-Australia Sydney (EMAS), Dr Jumiati Ismail for her inaugural visit to Geelong. Dr Jumiati was accompanied by the assistant warden at Malaysia Hall Melbourne, Tn Hj Rudie Yaakub and VMPGA Biro of Academic, Dr Asrenee Ab. Razak.
GMC members welcomed The Director of Education Malaysia-Australia Sydney (EMAS), Dr Jumiati Ismail for her inaugural visit to Geelong. Dr Jumiati was accompanied by the assistant warden at Malaysia Hall Melbourne, Tn Hj Rudie Yaakub and VMPGA Biro of Academic, Dr Asrenee Ab. Razak.
This visit was tailored towards conveying the Mission and Vision of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and EMAS as well as sharing of information among the Malaysian Doctoral and Masters students studying in Geelong. Study tips were given by Dr Jumiati to all GMC members in facing the hardship of being a research student.
EMAS through Dr Jumiati have handed a sum of AUD700 from the “Tabung Amanah Zakat” (TAZ) to ease the burden of one of our GMC family member whom had recently being struck by a calamity.

This years Eid has never been more meaningful with the gathering of all GMC members and Singaporean Malays at the Norlane Community Hub.

The joyful event was attended by more than 200 guests filled with fun and laughter.

Majority of Muslims around the world celebrate the Eid to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. The Eid prayer was held at the Geelong Mosque attended by Muslim of all races. The sermon reminds the Muslim of the needy and to always performs good deeds.

GMC members and family took the opportunity to apologize to each other for any wrong doings in the past and gather for the most awaited event "the photo shoots!".
Subsequently, all GMC members were invited to Bro's Azian Zaidi's open house in Newtown for a satay treat.
In the Eve of Eid

Coincide with this event, GMC through Malaysian Student Department (MSDA) and Victoria Malaysian Postgraduate Association (VMPGA) has been given the authority and trust to collect the Zakat FITRAH for this years Eid. Mr Azian Zaidi has been legally appointed as the Amil.
Solat Terawikh di Masjid Geelong

Ramadhan yang mulia ini menguji umat Islam dari segala sudut. Bukan sekadar lapar dan dahaga, tetapi juga ujian kepada umat Islam di Geelong untuk meningkatkan ibadah kepada yang Esa dengan mendirikan solat dan membaca Al-Quran di waktu malam. Di antara ibadah yang khusus setahun sekali ialah bersolat Terawikh.
Itenary Solat Terawikh di Masjid Geelong adalah seperti berikut:-
7.15 pm - Solat Isya'
7.25 pm - Solat Terawikh
7.45 ++ pm - Tamat 8 rakaat
8.20 ++ pm - Tamat 20 rakaat
Majlis berbuka puasa di Masjid Geelong akan diadakan pada setiap hari Sabtu dengan cara pot Luck. Semua muslimin dan muslimat GMC di jemput hadir.

Holy Matrimony and Honoring of the Upcoming of Ramadan

Today GMC members are pleased with the unison of loving and amorous couple through a holy matrimony celebration. Our beloved Nizam and his wife, Jun were warmly rejoiced by GMC members at Kak Anis and Abg Lan's residence.

Coincide with this event was an informal meeting between GMC members and Geelong Malay Association initiated by Brother Sulaimi. The meeting was held to discussed on the preparation and arrangement for the upcoming Ramadan and Eid celebration.
For the first time ever, special posed were given by GMC members to be included in Malaysian news paper for the coming Eid's wishes section.

Tahlil Prayer and Doa Ceremony

As to commemorate the late mother in law of Mr Azian Zaidi, a tahlil and doa ceremony was held today on the 18 of June 2011. The prayers was led by our Brother Mizan and a some insights were given by Brother Wan to remind us of the purpose of live and good deeds.

BBQ With Victoria Malaysian Postgraduate Association (VMPGA)

After series of long postponement, the BBQ session with VMPGA is finally a success. Geelong Malaysian Community (GMC) today are grateful for the visit paid by the delegates from VMPGA. VMPGA President, Mr Khairul Azmi whom were accompanied by his Vice President and Treasurer, were given a joyful casual welcome from GMC members comprised of more than 16 families and 40 students at the Barwon Valley Park Promenade.
Welcoming remark were given by our honorable representative, Mr Azian Zaidi followed by a short speech from Mr Azmi.

The overwhelming support were also shown by our own GMC bachelors
And not to forget to the all the lovely food and beverages cooked by GMC Hot Mamas!

Today, Geelong Malaysian Community gave a warm welcome to our newly arrived JPA sponsored students. The ice breaking session was aimed to introduce the esteemed members of the community as well as to give tips and survival kit to study and live in Geelong.
